Wild Blue Yonder

This last weekend my friend Malikai, who currently lives in London, was in town and had suggested that we take the boys up in the single engine airplane that he was flying around Texas in during his stay here.  Malikai has been working on his piloting skills for a while and is constantly looking for reasons to fly and log more hours, so we decided to take the boys on a day trip down to Port Aransas to have lunch.  We got off to a bit of a late start and I was worried we wouldn’t make it back in time to get to Chris’s daughter Lela’s birthday party at Chuck-e-Cheese, but we were only a half hour late getting back.  During the flight the boys were great and seemed to really enjoy it, even with the frustration of not being able to hear or talk to each other during flight prep, takeoff, and landings due to the plane being so loud and us having to disconnect the boys’ headsets during such times so that Malikai could communicate effectively with air traffic control.  They also really loved flying through the clouds because they were so bumpy.  They looked a little freaked during the turbulence but it was the kind of freaked that is more excited than scared.  Overall they had a great time, and even took a short nap in the plane during the latter half hour or so of the flight down to Port Aransas.  Once we got there we took the Airport courtesy car over to a little TexMex restaurant that was actually really good, and then went right back to the Airport and flew back home.  It was one of the most complicated and involved trips to lunch we’ve ever taken…
