Braces Update

Every now and then someone stumbles across this blog when searching about adult braces. This happened last week and it’s prompted me to do an update. I’m now a year and a half into wearing my braces with a predicted two year committment going into this. My bite has completely changes, formally a slight underbite, I know have the overbite that is considered healthiest. My teeth are straight and there are hardly any spaces left between them after the removal of four teeth at the beginning. I haven’t had much discomfort after appointments this year, maybe a little tightness but otherwise they stay comfortable. The only food that I miss eating is popcorn. It’s still torture for me to go to the movies and I still say that will be the first thing I do as soon as I get these off, go to the movies and order a giant bag of buttery popcorn! I’m curious about when these will come off because from my limited perspective, I can’t see much left to do. The past few appointments I’ve tried to get my orthodontist narrowed down about this but he’s stayed vague and I can understand why as each appointment reveals itself differently.

It’s been odd having a new bite. I’ve found that I can no longer tear open packages with me teeth like before and a couple of times have hurt myself by biting down onto teeth that just aren’t used to that kind of motion or movement.

Anyway, it’s almost over and my mouth is an entirely new thing now. It’s healthier and hopefully will be set to hold together for many more years without having to do anymore major work (except for the already expected gum graphs still to come).
