Home Again
Home again after a week’s vacation in New Braunfels, Texas with my parents, brother and two of his daughters. It was very amazing to see how much easier these vacations have gotten as the boys get older. Being able to skip naps so that we can go on outings was a huge milestone. Of course not napping didn’t always leave me with the happiest of kids but it was still nice to be more flexible.
Forest was a total two year old throughout the week and left me mentally exhausted from all the battles. Toward the end of the week I finally saw his canine teeth peaking out of his gums so I think that his nastiness had a lot to do with having four teething tearing through at the same time as the general organized chaos of being on vacation with two other families. It’s a lot easier for me to feel sorry for him now then I did in the midst of his behavior last week though, let me assure you. Yes, Forest is 2.5 years old and just now getting is canines and still no 2nd year molars.
I think our favorite part of the week was the trip to Schlitterbahn waterpark. Brad and I spent the whole time entertaining the boys at the 4 different toddler areas and it was so much fun. I wish I had some pictures of the beautiful smiles from that day. Of Forest fearlessly sliding down the water slides and crashing into the water at the bottom all by himself because he’s “a big boy.” But I have those images in my head forever. And going back there on every year will have to be a new family tradition. We are Texans after all!
We did get some great pictures when we went to the zoo with my brother and nieces on Monday. My eldest niece, Miry, is a great amateur photographer and she took some beautiful shots. And yes, I need to post them. Hopefully during tomorrow’s nap time I’ll get that done.
Another favorite memory from last week was being able to sit downstairs with my brother and parents and chat while my nieces Emily and Miry played with the boys upstairs. Both girls are such good cousins and were constantly helping herd toddlers and play with them while in the condo. I loved hearing the laughter upstairs knowing how important those family relationships are through the years.
