Searching for a Home
As some of you may have gathered from twitter, Facebook, emails, phone calls or even face to face conversations, we are searching for a home to buy. Like anyone who is in that search, we have our ideals and our must haves and right now with a rental lease that doesn’t end until July, those two lists are one and the same. We made two offers pretty early on, one was a fixer upper that we really undercut on the price so when they got another higher offer we didn’t have a chance (although I think it’s still on the market so yeah, whatever), the other was this weird situation where the buyer freaked out saying she can’t move out until mid-August and when we said mid-July was fine with us, she said no way and pulled the house from the market. We are in love with her neighborhoods huge, old trees, but so far no other houses there match our needs.
So despite being out late Friday and Saturday night celebrating birthdays, we made plans for Sunday to go look at 5 homes. It was a blast as each one got better and better. The first one we didn’t even go inside after seeing the lack of a yard and the busy street it was on. The second was cute, the third adorable, the four fabulous but the last house was THE ONE. Even better then the ones we’d made offers on. We knew that it was going to happen, that something better was out there, but it sure was fun to find it! It was so neat how both Brad and I looked at each other as we stood inside the house and said, “I want to live here!” Up until that point we’d liked the homes a lot for various reasons but had kinda left it up to Spirit whether or not it was going to be our home. This time our prayers changed to “We’d like this one, please!” Looking back we laugh about it.
Everyone keeps asking for pictures but honestly, they don’t do it justice. That’s the other funny story about this house. I’d been looking at it in the listings for weeks and had removed it from the big house hunting outing we had a month ago. But when we walked inside, saw how big the living room and kitchen are, saw that yes there is a big covered porch and a beautiful yard as well, I was blown away. It’s in a marvelous family neighborhood with big parks, walking/biking trails, pools, you name it. In fact, we’ll be living across the street from one of the big parks and neighborhood pools. I’m so excited to have this home and all the day dreams of raising the boys there.
Our offer was accepted so as long as there is no inspection wackiness, we’ll close at the beginning of June. The search has been fun and interesting. We have two back ups from our search on Sunday plus I saw another great possibility come on the market this morning. But I hope we won’t need any backups. I’m looking forward to living in that pretty blue home!
