At the Ranch
My best friend, Wendy has a daughter, Avery. She was born five years ago, Valentine’s Day. It was a magical day, it snowed in Austin that most special Valentine’s Day. Since that moment, Valentine’s Day is not the Hallmark holiday for me, but her birthday. Pure and simple. I often joke with Wendy using the line from Ab Fab, “I’ve known you longer then your daughter has.” It fits for a lot of reasons. But really the point of this post is to tell you about Avery’s birthday party this year. We all drove out to the family ranch, ate cupcakes and chili, went on a hayride and otherwise enjoyed each other’s company in celebration of Avery’s gift to the world that was her birth.
I’m really cautious about not posting pictures of other people on here, especially other people’s children. I can exploit my children, but without signed waivers, I don’t dare exploit other children. But I figured the grandparents would love to see some pictures of the boys doing boy things like eating hay and riding on tractors. You can only imagine the joy that the boys had that day getting to “steer” the big orange tractor. And thanks to Wendy’s friend, Tali Wildman, we have the most amazing pictures. She’s an incredible photographer and if you need someone who’s friendly, laid back, great with children (of all ages), and an amazing photographer, I highly recommend her.
Needless to say this post is going to be very picture heavy. But I couldn’t leave a single one of my favs out so you’ll just have to bare with me. And these are only my top “favorites”. Oh yeah, and I snuck in a few of Avery and her cousin because I know their moms and they won’t sue me for exploiting their kids. I’ll catch hell from them, but that’s all. I’m used to that.

Happy Fifth Birthday, Avery. Thank you for sharing your Momma with me. I don’t know what I’d do without her as my best friend. And it’s pretty cool that I got you as part of the bargain as well.
