Home Sweet Home

We arrived back in Texas at 2:00 AM Sunday morning. Yesterday was a blur of washing clothes, taking naps and falling in love with “Puffs with lotion and Vicks”. The cashier at the grocery store yesterday comment about how strong they smelled. I replied, “Now I know how bad my cold is, I can’t even smell them!” The woman who never gets sick (me) got sick, while on vacation. Not SICK sick but annoying cold sick. Sore throat for 24 hours moving into coughing for a couple days with lots of days with a runny nose. But coming home to an environment where the AC doesn’t have to be kept as cold and multiple humidifiers in the house seems to have done the trick as today I’m feeling better then I have in a week.

Our trip to Utah was really good. Lots of family time, although I was unable to participate in much of the together time because I would go to bed so early from feeling sick. While everyone else was playing Uno or watching the Olympics, I was cuddled up in my very comfy bed propped up by lots of pillows to keep from coughing. I have the most wonderful, thoughtful and fun nieces. They really helped out so much with the twins and seemed to enjoy doing it. My brother and sister-in-law kindly watched the boys one afternoon so that I could enjoy a production of “Fiddler on the Roof” with my parents and nieces. It’s such a good story, that one. I need to buy the movie. I like watching my brother play with kids; he’s really good with them.

We visited Snow Canyon State Park as well as Zion National Park. I had never been into the desert mountains before so this was all very beautiful to me. We didn’t do any hiking but saw lots of the views and put our feet in the Virgin River as it crossed through the canyons. I loved having Logan say “red” as he pointed at the red rocks we drove through. I loved hearing Forest use the word “mountain” for the first time because I had been saving teaching them that word for real mountains and these definitely qualified.

I got to enjoy lots of my moms cooking. I’ve always loved her cooking.

But it’s hard being on vacation. Being away for 7 days without a car, without my husband (who was off on his own adventure so he couldn’t be with us), in a place that was 100 degrees outside by noon (and I thought it was bad around here). So I am glad to be home. Back with our cats, our “stuff”, our yard, our car. It’s so weird driving again after not driving for 7 days. A good weird.
