Nurturing the Spirit

I don’t remember how it started but earlier this week I ended up finding some new blogs that I’m really excited about. One of them had this beautiful quote that really fit with my day Monday.

“The greatest challenge we all face as spiritual nurturers is to become attuned to the young child’s authentic spirituality, which–unlike our own– is still such an integrated part of life…children’s exuberant spirituality is reflected in everything they do….a child shows us the extraordinary in the ordinary. Our task as spiritual nurturers becomes easier when we realized that we do not have to instill spirituality in a child, we have only to protect it from being trampled and to nourish its natural growth.”
—–Aline D Wolf, from Nurturing the Spirit

Monday afternoon the boys played outside in the front yard for a good two hours. I was relaxed and calm, didn’t control their play but did guide them with gentle words when they ventured into danger. We heard sounds, hugged trees, felt raindrops, and otherwise had a truly spiritual afternoon. May this quote serve as a memory that I have it in me to have these good times.
