Can you dig it?
Children come into this world ready to dance and sing. They have no idea to be self conscious or in tune until they get old enough to understand ridicule. Too bad we don’t have a world where that never happens. I was amazed at how early Logan started humming. Before he was a year old, he was wandering the halls “doo doo do”ing and now Forest does it regularly as well. Some days Forest can’t stop dancing. Like yesterday, he was just in a dancing mood.
We love music in our family and hope to encourage the boys to follow all artistic paths. Dusty played the drums in school and taught himself to spin records just because he loves certain types of electronic music so much. Brad played the sax in school and could have gone professional at a young age but life took another route. He has an amazingly beautiful voice and also plays the didgeridoo and other instruments as the become part of his collection. I just love music. I can’t sing well so I sing loud. This was one thing that Dusty didn’t like about me but thank goodness Brad tolerates.
I grew up with music in the home. My dad is such a music fan that his current choice on the radio is rap. Seriously, my 50’s something year old caucasian father loves rap music. And not even the “old school” stuff that I like, oh no, the current stuff that I’m not into at all. I’m not bringing this up to slam him, on the contrary, I honor him. Anyone who can listen to Phil Collins, Tupac, The Beatles, and U2 in one sitting - obviously appreciates music. I was blessed to grow up with music all around and air guitar often played.
When the boys walk around “do do doo”ing, when they get to play the flute or didg, when they break out into spontaneous dance steps, I am thrilled with the knowledge that music is inherent in all people and that we have a chance to encourage them to new heights. So when you hear Skinny Puppy, Icaros by the Shipibo or Neil Diamond blasting from our stereo, you’ll know the boys are in good hands.

If only for me, play them some old skool Michael Jackson.
I’ll come over and dance too. ;)
