Trip Summary

Last Friday Brad and I took the boys on their seventh plane flight as we traveled to California to visit his family. The boys were so wound up at the airport and when we first got onto the plane, it was not a pleasant experience. It was stressful trying to keep up with them in the airport, getting onto the airplane and trying to get them to settle down during the first hour on the flight that I was scared to death of having to fly home with them alone the next week. But after a night’s sleep and several special days for the boys with their grandma and grandpa I realized that it probably wouldn’t be that bad again because I trust my boys to be good to me and even if it was “that bad again” it was worth it.

We spent an entire day in the pool which the boys LOVED. They enjoyed having their 3 cousins and aunt and uncle around to help entertain them and care for them. They decided quickly that everything is better when grandma does it and wouldn’t even let me put their shoes on. They learned to eat fruit in big pieces and just take bites. Their vocabularies seemed to take on several new words. In fact, Logan called Grandma “Ma” and Grandpa “Pa” towards the end of our visit. And he knows that water fountains are “waaater”. Forest has his own version of the sign for water nailed. Both boys kept asking for Daddy through sign language (Forest) and word (Logan) and would point at pictures of Brad a lot after he left.

Logan took a nap with Grandma one day and I got to see my good friend Abby for a few hours. I met her when she was about 17 -18 and now she’s an “old” married lady with a baby on the way so it was a big thrill to talk pregnancy, birth, and babies with her. Seeing Logan and Grandma asleep together on the couch was one of my favorite experiences of the trip. I think Abby got a picture of them together that I’ll have to post when she sends it to me.

The trip home yesterday started off with chaos when we couldn’t find parking at LAX. This set us completely back in a domino effect and suddenly I found myself unable to check our suitcase onto our flight and had to send it on another flight much later in the night. We ran across the airport and made it just in time for last call. The flight attendants were extremely helpful calming me down from my rushed state and getting me and the two boys and the car seat onto the flight and off of the flight. The boys were angels and behaved with such grace throughout the experience that I couldn’t stop kissing them and praising them. While American Airlines ticket agents at LAX had no trouble giving Grandpa a pass to help me through security and to take the boys to the gate, our local airport told Dusty that they weren’t supposed to do that. He was finally able to get someone to give him a pass to meet us but we think it was because the first person he asked refused to let him talk to a manager on duty and the second agent was just wanting to cover their butts. Once at the gate the agents were kind enough to let him down to the plane door to meet us and help me. Talk about inconsistency, right? Dusty tried to go get the bag last night but the agent in LAX had given me the wrong time for the flight arrival with my bag so I went and got it this morning.

Actually flying with the boys was not difficult, the hard part is the airport. And now that we know we may not get help through to the gate next time around, I’m not going to do it again by myself until I know for sure that the boys are both capable of walking themselves up and down the airplane alone while I struggle with car seats, etc.

I’m hoping that I can figure out how to use iPhoto by myself this week and get up some of the CUTE pictures from the trip. So keep a look out!

I’m so happy you and Ab were able to connect! How fun! :) It sounds like the boys really had a blast and the plane rides were a minor inconvenience compared to the joy. Can’t wait to see pictures!!!
