Forest at 16 months old
It wouldn’t be so bad that Forest wants to help wipe himself during diaper changes if he didn’t also want to put the wipe into his mouth after. It’s a good thing that we use all natural wipes and cleaning stuffs around here because he loves to help clean, but also loves to put the rags into his mouth.
Our “little man” (I know we shouldn’t call him that, but we do) now has three teeth on the top and two on the bottom! Yay!
Forest has once again proven that while he may learn something a few days later then Logan, he masters it. He is using sign language like a champ. Right now he’s trying to understand the difference between Mommy and Daddy, which are similar signs just on different parts of the face. I bet he’ll have it down in a few days. He’s connected the concept of “more” to everything. “More” shoes when I’ve only put one on. “More” outside when he wants to go play outside. “More” coloring when he wants to use the crayons. It’s amazing how giving them the words unleashes this whole world of understanding that I never would have guessed.
He’s starting to become a bit more verbal and communicates less with that squeal we grew to know so well. I kinda miss it. I’m convinced that he’s going to be one of those kids that just bursts into full sentences one day.
He loves to run and his run is so very cute, with his chest all pushed out in front of him as if he’s leading the way with his heart. He loves be lazy and will lay around his crib after naps for a good ten minutes if you let him. He just likes to roll around and throw smiles at you from behind his pacifier. He’s always been our good sleeper and continues to be. He’ll let me know when he’s tired and ready for naps by asking for his pacifier. He’ll let me know when he’s fully woken in the morning or from the nap by requesting to put the pacifier away.
He’s gotten good at throwing and doesn’t realize the difference between throwing a block and throwing a ball. Luckily the hitting and throwing things at people phase of last month seems to have past (is that just for now?).
How is it that he knows buttons are always supposed to mean things light up and do stuff? Do kids in our time come in just knowing that everything is computerized and how to work it? I’m starting to think so.
Forest loves to use a spoon and has figured out to tilt the bowl to get the remaining few bites of food left. He won’t let me help him, will downright refuse the spoon from my hand, if I help get the last bites out of the bowl I have to hand him the spoon back so he can feed himself.
I’ve noticed that his looks are changing. He is starting to look a lot more like his brother and a lot older. He’s becoming a little boy. I know that I’ll say that many times over the course of the next several years but each time it will be equally true. He’s super friendly and loves to wave hello or goodbye to anyone and everything. He’s definitely got a social butterfly in him.
And as I watched him sleeping during his nap today I let myself just melt into the moment. To remember every detail of his preciousness. These are very special days we get to share together.
