Decay
Today I finished my two days of dental work…otherwise known as having 7 cavities filled. I hadn’t been to the dentist since 1995 so it was no surprise that I had cavities. The good news was that it wasn’t because it had been 12 years since my lasted dental visit that I had them. The dentist was kind enough to explain to me that these days we know that some people are more prone to decay then others, that it’s genetic, and that I just have to do a lot more to make sure that I don’t get future cavities. So I now not only floss every night before bed (yes, you only need to floss once every 24 hours), I also use Enamel Care toothpaste (contains calcium) in the morning and a prescription strength fluoride toothpaste at night. I use a xylitol breath spray daily as well to help kill the bacteria that causes decay. Who would have thought that a sugar derivative would kill a decay causing bacteria? It seems like a lot to do, but it’s not really. Especially considering how much time, discomfort and money I just had to give up to have these cavities filled.
Next week I call the orthodontist and schedule to have the braces put on. About to turn 35 and finally getting braces. Maybe I’ll start getting carded again. One can only hope.
