Santa Fe
Last weekend Brad and I were in Santa Fe visiting friends and otherwise enjoying the city. I had never been to New Mexico or even to the desert before so it was an all new experience. I was hoping for some snow flurries but the weather report proved wrong and we never saw any. That’s ok, we took two trips up the mountain a bit and hiked in the snow which was beautiful and gave me a little taste to hold me over until next year. We ate a lot of really good food, mostly New Mexican chili flavored foods.
One of my favorite parts of the trip was a visit to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. She’s always been an artist who’s work spoke to me. The huge, up close images of flowers and the contrasts between flowers and desert scapes. I saw pieces I had not seen before, breath taking pieces. And at one moment of enjoying an oil painting up close with no glass covering, I was taken with tears of joy as I could see the strokes of her brush mixing through the oil paints. I learned a lot about her from the museum movie and we were able to buy a poster of my favorite of her paintings, “D.H. Lawrence Pine Tree”. Here is the actual tree and here is the painting. I first saw the painting at a touring exhibition in Fort Worth a few years ago and being a pine tree lover, a DH Lawrence poetry fan, and an O’Keeffe painting fan, this was the ultimate image. Now to just have it framed and hung in the living room.

Oh, this takes me back! I can’t wait to go there again. I LOVE the G O’K museum and, frankly, all of the art galleries! I loved walking up and down Canyon. The houses, especially in the winter when they have all of the luminaries, are awesome!
I’m glad that you had a good trip and, moreso, that you got to eat good food!
