Developmental Update - tantrums have arrived
The boys have so much going on right now that I realized I’ve neglected to go into it all. But it’s just such a cool age it’s hard to even keep up. And I mean that literally!
They get into everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. They open everything, close everything, pull everything out and apart. They crawl, cruise and use the walker to get all over the house with great ease. Logan is taking 2-3-4 steps at a time every couple of days to reach across spaces and get what he wants. It’s funny because he could walk, he’s just not confident yet so he’s not ready. Both guys can stand independently rather well now so I know walking is just a matter of time.
The babbling is very distinctly word sounding. Forest is starting to say his version of “ball” now too, so there we have it, first words for both. Logan is starting to work on the word “cat”. They do a lot of pointing and I spend my days telling them words and pronouncing things very distinctly. I’ve started pointing out words in books and find that they enjoy pointing at images and are always seeming to want to know what something is. It’s so neat! We continue to try and use the sign language when we think about it, not sure if it’ll be enough for them to use it but hopefully.
Both boys are clapping when they hear music. Well Logan can bring his hands together but Forest waves his around and you know what he means. Forest waves bye-bye and Logan sometimes does and they both say something that kinda sounds like “buh-bye”.
And last but certainly not least we are moving closer and closer towards the world of toddler tantrums. Diaper changing can be a wrestling match and a battle of wills. It’s about 50/50 these days as we are always coming up with something new to give them in hopes that it’ll keep them occupied long enough to wipe their messy butts. While both boys will go off if frustrated by not being able to do something, Logan has especially mastered the art of letting us know when he’s pissed off. We are working on just ignoring it and not responding to it as much as possible. And although they can’t say it “stop touching me” rings loud and clear through their screams. In fact they’ve learned to use the same scream for that as they do for when they get hurt, little buggers.
They have definitely proven how smart and sweet they are, now may my prayers for patience continue to be answered (most of the time) because I know that it’s only going to get more and more interesting in the next few years.
