The New Bed and Sleeping like a Baby

Several things added up to horrible back pain for me over the last year. Most were/are baby related but another big piece was Brad’s “firm” mattress. As much as I like going to the chiropractor, it shouldn’t be a monthly thing for upkeep. Even my chiropractor told me that! So we invested, and yes invested is a darn good word considering how expensive and yet important a good mattress is. After a great deal of research I suggested the Simmons BeautyRest so a trip to the store of laying on various styles and rolling around, we chose one. It’s the strangest thing to be laying on a bed while a salesman talks to you. Seriously made me feel Roman or something. And since we were already investing we decided to upgrade and improve our investment to a king size. With three cats and two babies, you can imagine! It immediately helped and while I do still have back issues, they are lessening and regular yoga and stretches should help more.

One cute thing has been that Forest really likes the new bed also. In fact, it seems that he’s decided that he no longer wants to nap in the co-sleeper and would rather nap in our bed. I continue to keep the boys in separate rooms for naps so that they nap better and longer. Forest was swaddled into his 8th month so we were able to use the co-sleeper as a co-sleeper in our room for his naps until recently. When the swaddling stopped, we switched the co-sleeper into a portacrib. Unfortunately, it’s just not very comfortable with a hard metal piece in the middle and a thin, thin mattress. He’s napped pretty fussily since the change. But now, I find that I can put him down on our bed and he’s content as can be. He’s taken long naps, harking back to his infant days. Another cute thing going on with him is that he’s finally learning how to move around onto his side and stomach to sleep. Having been swaddled for so long he has been a back sleeper. But he recently discovered the ability to roll around and even sit up or stand up in the crib. So he’s finally learning how to put himself to sleep.
