Not a Homemaker, but I can Cook!
I have a feeling that there has been much discussion over the years about this initial topic but I’m just now understanding it from experience. I dislike checking the box “homemaker” because I don’t think I am one. It feels very out dated and 1950’s to me. I am no “domestic goddess”, I barely clean the bathroom weekly. What I am is a stay at home mom or a full time child raiser. While I have recently found myself getting into and enjoying cooking, it’s not what I do. I take care of my two boys. That is my focus. And on the days when I have tried to focus on cooking or cleaning I have not been a good mom. I have gotten agitated. I have gotten annoyed. Those easily distractible little guys were grating on my nerves because they were keeping me from what I was trying to do. But see, when I’m not trying to do anything but enjoy being with them… when I am sitting on the floor in the middle of the living room playing keep away with Logan or rolling the ball to Forest, then I’m doing “my job.” I don’t know what word is the right one but I’m going to keep thinking on it and when I have it figured out I’m going to start checking “other” and writing it in.
