Hiccups and Spitting Up
Forest has had horrible hiccups since he was in the womb. He’d get them several times a day and continues that now with whole days of horrible shakes. I feel so bad for him on those days as he even drifts into naps with them. They have gotten fewer and less often as the months go by so I have faith that they may eventually become less of an annoyance.
I am happy to say that the other day I realized that I almost never use the gazzilion spit up rags any longer. They are great for wiping messy mouths during bottle feedings and runny noses when a tissue isn’t handy, but otherwise they aren’t necessary. It’s been another gradual lessening since about 6 months old. It’s a huge relief and allows me to think about things like steam cleaning the boys’ bedroom and finally getting that new area rug for the living room that we wanted.
It’s funny how people keep telling you that “they grow up so fast” and that “this phase is so short”. And while you are in it, it doesn’t feel that way. It feels like the most intense situation and the most exhausting. But the truth is that it does go by really fast and that they go from one phase to the next in a matter of weeks. It’s taken me this whole time to understand how to be graceful about it but I’m working on it.
