nap sweetness

After a rough couple of weeks with Logan occasionally refusing to take naps and having lots of wake ups during the night, things seem to be back to normal again. But then again, what is normal for an almost 8 month old baby?

One of the sweetest things has begun to evolve around nap time and demonstrates to me that Logan understands the few minutes of routine. I always carry him into the bedroom, close the blinds and then walk over to the crib. I take off his teething-produced-drool protective bib and set it on the rocking chair. I reach to the foot of the crib and lay out the sleep sack so that I’ll be able to lay him down on top of it. At this moment, he puts his head down onto my shoulder, rubs his eyes, yawns and lets me know that he is ready for the coming nap. The head on the shoulder gets to me every time. So I take a few moments to pat his back and cuddle him, speaking softly and with well wishes for a good nap and the things we’ll do after he takes a good nap. Once I put him down, he searches around for the closest stuffed animal (he has three in his crib), grabs it and cuddles it close while putting his thumb in his mouth (only time he sucks his thumb is when he’s put down to sleep or is super tired). I wish I could take a picture but the image is forever burned into my memory.

Since Logan started this gentle process I went ahead and started taking a few moments with Forest as well and I find that he’s started putting his head down and letting me cuddle him. I wonder if it’s something about this age that they start to understand and enjoy cuddling? I sure am enjoying it!!
