food

The boys have been eating solids for about six weeks or so now. We started with rice cereal and then added various fruits and veggies over time. Poor Logan kept waking up at 5 am with a poopie diaper when we first started, so we switched the cereal feed from evening to midday. Now the guy gets constipated from the combination of formula and food so I am in the process of phasing out the rice cereal in favor of oatmeal and barley. I also keep prunes on hand for regular use (I’m sure when he gets older he’ll really appreciate that I wrote all of this down and posted to the whole world via the internet). So far the boys have enjoyed peas, green beans, carrots, prunes, pears, apples, bananas (fresh and jar), plums, and sweet potatoes. Forest really likes apples and bananas and seemed pretty enthusiastic about green beans last night, but doesn’t like carrots at all. He’s also a fan of Arby’s Roast Beef and Chedder and beer (just kidding, he was only grabbing the bottle). Logan will eat anything and while he’ll initially make a face at a new taste, he gobbles it up. He even knows how to drink from a straw and got made when Brad took it from him before he got any Dr. Pepper. He also seemed to really like the bbq sausage I let him lick last weekend.

Food

The thing about feeding babies food is that I have to remember that they are doing this more for the experience right now then the nutritional value. Like this morning when Logan was much more interested in playing with the spoon and got applesauce ALL over the place. Or last night when he was practicing his all important raspberries with green beans in his mouth so that they got all over me. So the breast/formula is still very much their primary and I expect that over time they will get more and more into this eating thing.
