schedules

I find myself realizing that the boys are ready to be “scheduled” for feedings and naps. Up until now I’ve just gone with the flow and while they definitely created this schedule with their needs and obvious comforts, I am glad to have it so that I can make plans and so that others can babysit and give me some free time. We are lucky that the boys seem to be close enough in their rhythms that doing a schedule pretty much works. I can tell Logan would rather sleep in a little more but there is a fine line between their needs and my sanity and need for time without babies. I thought I had a schedule previously but it’s in constant revision. I found that by letting Forest sleep later he was waking in the middle of the night and staying up for an hour or more. Not fun. Thank goodness for buying Ferber’s book and learning that this is probably because we were asking him to sleep too much. Things are definitely better now.

I eliminated the overnight feeding two days ago and so far it hasn’t seemed to be a problem. Forest is still waking periodically but I can tell that it’s like Logan, habit, because he’s easy to sooth back to sleep.
