breastfeeding update
With the expectation of being in Aspen for five days in July, I am changing all but three feedings to bottles. It’s not easy because I don’t even like the smell of formula, much less the cost. And the boys have enjoyed not getting sick and growing really well and I have to believe the breastfeeding was a big part of that. But the reality is that the breast pump is horrible. Maybe it’s easier for one baby. Or maybe they just suck. But I’ve gone 24 hours on two occasions pumping and I was MISERABLE. The pump wasn’t able to relieve me and I needed to pump about twice as often as the normal feeding schedule.
But I don’t want to give up all the feedings yet. I originally thought I would at 6 months but I love the 10 PM feeding and have decided to let the boys dictate when we stop the overnight feed. So I’m going to maintain 3 feedings for now and naturally let the boys stop those in their own time.

What kind of pump do you have? If it isn’t a Medela it probably does suck (figuratively :). If you haven’t used the Medela, I would give it a try before you mortgage the house to pay for formula. I breast fed my oldest son for over a year and the pump worked great for me. My second son is 16 weeks old and we spent two months trying to figure out what he was allergic to. During that time, I pumped 7+ times a day to keep my supply up. It ended up he is allergic to lactose which is naturally occuring in breast milk… big bummer. Formula is a total rip off!
Good luck!
