first food
Tonight both boys had their first real food, some rice cereal! Neither seemed to mind the taste (I mixed it with a small amount of breast milk and water) and they appeared to understand how to swallow by the end of the bowl.
It’s kinda neat realizing that they are one step closer to being independent.
Kinda neat and kinda sad all at the same time. I am no longer their soul source of nourishment.
I know that there is debate on when to start solid foods with babies. My research has led me to understand that this is due to allergies but I’ve also read up on how to tell if your child is ready for solids and how to be sure to identify allergies as you go along. Because our boys are teething and very interested in our foods when we eat I had a feeling that they might be ready. We’ll only be giving them rice cereal for the next few weeks and then begin to slowly introduce other foods one week at a time. Our pediatrician said that any time between now and 6 months was fine so I took that as a good ahead to follow my instincts.
Now to find out if the rumors are true that it can help them sleep longer at night.
