Naming Ceremony
On Sunday we held a Naming Ceremony for the boys. It was a beautiful day outside so we were able to gather under the tree in the front of the house with about 30 friends and family. It was a wonderful and every special time for Dusty, Brad and I to share with so many very special people. Wendy got a few pictures so here they are. The pot luck after was great as we all got to catch up and swap stories. I sat under the tree holding Forest while his feet touched the grass. I rocked Logan to sleep in my arms to give him a nap before the ceremony. Very special moments indeed. It meant a lot to me that we had people come for the ceremony from DFW, Houston, Austin and many small towns in between. I was touched by so many different things and different people I can’t even begin to name them all.
A Naming Ceremony is an opportunity for a community to gather and acknowledge newborns who have been born into the world. We used a native style ceremony as these are the teachings that Brad and I currently use in our own personal practice. For me it as a chance to be with the people who want to and will be part of the boy’s growth. To have these people acknowledge their choice and the responsibility that comes along with this. For the boys to be welcomed with open arms and kisses by friends and family who had not yet had the chance. For the boys to be grounded in this earth walk and acknowledge the process of moving into this body for this lifetime.
