advice wanted

I start my first days of being home alone with the twins tomorrow and I wanted to see what all you other twin moms have to offer in advice.

Where you able to tandem feed when alone and if so how did you manage? I’m almost thinking I’ll have to feed seperately during the day and save tandem for at night.
What did you do when both babies wanted to be held and you were all alone? It seems so hard to safely get them both into my arms by myself at the same time.

Any other words of wisdom for a mom of twins at three weeks who is about to start spending 8 - 10 hours a day alone with them?

Also, any advice for dads who want to help with night feedings but need to get enough sleep to work the next day?

I have TONS of advice–feel free to email me anytime :) For me, I found that I couldn’t really tandem nurse until each baby learned to nurse correctly on their own. I would nurse one, then the other, usually. We had a bouncy seat that the one who wasn’t eating would sit in and I would bounce it with my foot to keep them happy and soothed until it was his/her turn to nurse. You can try to tandem nurse if your guys have definitely got the hang of it. Use lots of pillows to prop them up at the right angles and a rolled up cloth diaper under your breasts to hold those up at the appropriate angles, too. And as far as holding them both at the same time–you get to be an expert at picking up two babies at once and walking around with them like that too :)

I used the Anna Double Nursing pillow. Here’s the website. http://www.thenursingpillowcompany.com/
It was hard to get them both on the nursing pillow when I was alone, so I devised a system where I put them both in bouncy chairs infront of my big couch. Then, with the nursing pillow on my lap, I picked up one baby and put it between me and the end of the couch. Then I picked up the other baby and placed it between me and a big throw pillow on the couch. Once they were both laying next to me on the couch, I lifted one onto the nursing pillow and attached him to my breast and then I gently reached over and picked up the other baby and placed it one my other breast. When they are very young as yours are, it takes about 20 minutes for them to nurse, so nursing them at the same time is the most efficient way to nurse at this time. When they get to be faster, stronger nursers (sucking in all they need in five minutes) that’s when I started to nurse them one at a time.
Hope that helps. Feel free to e-mail me any time.
