sleep, or lack there of
I go to bed each night between 11 and 12 and am up again around 2 hours later. I read for an hour or two until I get exhausted again. Then it’s back to bed for another few hours of sleep, but then I get up again because of all the discomfort in my shoulders, back, hips, glutes, and legs. Then I do my morning email and read news stories, have breakfast, hydrate, and if there are no appointments in the morning it’s back to bed again for another couple of hours at around 9 AM. If there are appointments, like this morning’s none stress test, I have to wait until this afternoon for my first nap which means lots of yawning late morning. Lunch is usually at 11-12 followed by an afternoon nap, which can be as short as an hour or as long as 4 hours. The length is mainly depending on if I have appointments or not because the afternoon nap is a requirement, even if I don’t get home until 5 PM like yesterday. Not sure why I sleep so much better during naps but I do and I’m oh so grateful for those!
The biggest thing that keeps me waking and uncomfortable has become the belly itself. It’s no longer a nest for two little beings, it is now two little beings attached to me. There is hardly any softness left as each turn in bed means feeling the pull and full weight of their little bodies tugging and pushing on my insides. I’m almost completely unable to lay on my left side now because the weight of both babies pushing down is painful. When I lay on my right side it means poor Forest is squished (he’s been hanging out there for months) and he definitely complains.  Laying on my back is not an option because the babies press down on my organs and can cause dizzyness, nausea and pain.
So there it is, why it’s so hard to sleep at 9 months while pregnant with twins. Once again, all praise the afternoon nap!
