breastfeeding

Last week we attended the “Breastfeeding Multiples” class. It was 3 hours long, which is honestly way too long to ask a 3rd trimester multiples’ mother to sit, no matter how many breaks you have. That’s my only complaint. Otherwise it was very informative as one of the local lactation consultants concentrated on helping us understand what to expect the first few weeks and how to best prepare and cope with some of the possible scenarios.

Breastfeeding is something that I am very dedicated to so I intend to give it my full commitment. Like many things for women today this is a choice, and I’m glad we have these choices. I know lots of women that breastfeed for a few weeks, others a few months, others for the first few years. The differences are for many, many reasons and I don’t think that one is better then the other because each mother has to decide what is best for her. I have the opportunity to stay home and dedicate myself to these two little boys so breastfeeding is something that I feel blessed to dedicate myself to as well.  The price of a lactation consultant to come and help me if I’m having issues is still less then the cost of formula so that alone makes it worth while.  Not to mention all of the other benefits.

I ordered my giant twin breastfeeding pillow: http://www.babyride.com/bc-42005.html .  Can’t wait for it to arrive so that I can figure out where on earth I’ll be able to sit and tandem nurse.  I have a feeling the couch is it because the rockers are just too small.  My goal is to tandem nurse so that I can get some sleep or at least rest but I’ll just have to see how it goes.

One of my big shower gifts was the really nice breast pump that several good friends pitched in on together for me.  As much as I plan to breastfeed I also know that having a good breast pump is going to be important so that I can remain a stable and sane woman.

Please, please, please, if you have any nursing twins questions, do not hesitate to ask me! And definitely talk to an LC while you are still in the hospital post-delivery and definitely call one to come to your house at the first sign of trouble. But, hopefully, you all will do just fine–good luck!
