28 weeks

Yesterday Wendy joined me at the Perinatal clinic for an ultrasound. They boys are about 3 lbs each and doing really well, above the average weight for twins. Both boys are still breech so I’m preparing myself mentally for the c-section. While there is still time for them to move, things are getting really crowded in there. I need to do research on how well some of the turning methods work on twins. Got two good pictures of the boy’s faces, I’ll try and get them scanned and posted here in the next few days. Even the really good ultrasounds aren’t as clear now as the boys are starting to get big and you just can’t see as well now.

My visit with Laura today showed me at 170 pounds, a total gain of 30 lbs for the pregnancy. The babies will be growing about 6-8 ozs each, per week, from here on out. With about another 8 - 10 weeks to go, sounds like I’ll be continuing to put on about 2 lbs a week, so probably about a 45 lb weight gain when all is said and done. My cervix is still really hard, no signs of preterm labor and all my resting is probably helping keep the uterus from being aggrivated.

To help people understand how big a twin uterus is in comparison to a single pregnancy… I’m currently at 28 weeks. You are considered full term at 37 weeks and most “due dates” are calculated to 40 weeks from the first day of the last menstraul cycle. My uterus is currently the same size as a single pregnancy at 34 weeks. So I’m just a few weeks from being the size of a full term single pregnancy but have another 2 months to go. Crazy huh?

Out of curiosity I checked the Chinese Lunar Calendar to see if they were right about the gender of our babies and low and behold, it’s correct. A 33 year old mom who conceives in April, Boys!

I’m so glad to hear the babies are well :)

I just found your website–congrats on the twins! Twins are so much fun and so much work! You’ll love it :) About the constipation–whatever you do, do NOT push to go! The motion is too similar to contractions and I have heard people say that they went into labor the day they were constipated or their water broke shortly after they spent some time pushing to go. Just a tip!

My Chinese Lunar calendar was correct for Ryan as well! There just might be something to that after all! ;)
