catching up on Tuesday

Thursday afternoon I did in fact experience my first contractions.  I’m assuming they were Braxton-Hicks:  sporadic uterine contractions that actually start at about 6 weeks, although they aren’t felt that early. You don’t start to notice them until sometime after midpregnancy, some women don’t at all. They get their name from John Braxton Hicks, an English doctor who first described them in 1872.  Basically the uterus is practicing for the BIG DAY.  I did as I had learned on Wednesday from Laura, I hydrated and laid down and was all better in a couple hours.  But it was a bit scarey.  Up until that point I still had some pride about trying to walk around Sea World on my own but that was the deal clincher and I went with a wheel chair while we were there.  And I sure am glad that I didn’t let my pride win that one, not worth it at all.  Plus it was fun to give Kirsten a ride on my lap and have her company during the sea lion show.
California was a wonderful trip.  The weather, the flowers and best of all, the people.  Brad’s family was just wonderful and treated me like one of their own.  Sea World was really neat and the babies seemed to get very excited when we were around whales.  Orcas and Belugas, they responded with lots of kicks.

It’s raining here in Austin today and it’s wonderful to have it in the middle of summer.  I’m looking forward to having the weather cool down.
