I had a very good weekend. Was up early on Saturday for a trip to the Austin Zoo with Wendy, Avery, Brad, Alissa and Zonk. The Austin Zoo is actually a non-profit rescue ranch that has an amazing collection of animals with some cool rescue stories. It was fun seeing Avery get excited by the lions and tigers and yet was scared to death of the giant turtles. “Kitty, Kitty” she would shout to the tigers. They looked back at her obviously thinking of breakfast. It started to get unbearably hot around noon (yay for Texas summers) and of course that was about the time we ran into our friend Aaron who works at the zoo. He was just feeding the very loud male lion. Because we were so hot we couldn’t stick around for a behind the scenes tour but we’ll definitely have to go back in the fall and take him up on the offer. After the zoo was a trip to the Nutty Brown Cafe for a banquet of appetizers. Jumbo Shrimp Wantons..mmmmm…. I got in a two hours nap before we all met again for a dinner of appetizers (bread and cheeses, chicken jalapeno dip, Alissa’s amazing homemade hummus, etc). It was good to spend the entire day with such good friends.
I was able to stay up until about midnight Saturday, a big accomplishment! I’m trying to build up my late nights on Saturdays in preparation for Mel’s next 80s theme night in August. I haven’t been to one since last Labor Day weekend and it was so much fun I don’t want to miss this one. Nothing like dancing to 80s music to bring back lots of silly memories and make lots of new silly memories. It’s great that Austin doesn’t allow smoking in clubs or bars any longer so I won’t have to worry about that and since I’ll just be drinking water I’ll be a cheap date.
Yesterday was yoga class and I’m going to try another class tonight. Tonight’s teacher is named Dawn and also has twins. I’m really enjoying the classes and excited to finally be getting into it. I wasn’t sure how I’d like it even though a lot of my friends do or teach yoga but it just feels very natural.
Work has finally picked up and I have 8 job openings I’m working to fill. Also about to release the first “Employee Handbook” to the company with policies and procedures. It’s an interesting experience trying not to have a mutiny in a start-up mentality company that isn’t a start-up any longer (7 years!). But I think we have found a good balance to work within the current culture and leave room for changes as the company grows.
I can’t see my toes when I look straight down any longer, have to bend down and look over the belly. I’m eating really well again and hungary a lot. I know I promised pictures for the website but I forgot with all the activity this weekend so I’ll have to get that done this weekend. I’m feeling good and lucky to be having such a wonderful pregnancy. This is a strange time because there isn’t much I can do and I have moments when I forget I’m pregnant and other moments when I’m thinking “this is just the beginning?”.
Dusty’s mother is coming for a visit on Sunday, I can’t wait! I haven’t seen her in months so it’ll be fun to catch up and spend an entire day all together.
