prenatal yoga class, food and weight

I had my first prenatal yoga class yesterday and really enjoyed it. It was neat to be in a room full of other pregnant women (from 6 weeks to due that day!) going through the various poses. I’m glad that I’ve spent the past couple of weeks learning the basics already because I didn’t feel like a total newbie and actually could kinda hold my own. I’m going to check out a teacher named Dawn who also has twins sometime this week I think. Hoping for a class a week plus one on the weekends to coordinate with my own daily work in the morning. The breathing and stretching is really helping already and I look forward to the continued benefits.

My food aversions seem to be all gone now. I ate WAY too much Indian food for lunch yesterday and even had crab cakes at Shaunna’s birthday party a few weeks earlier. It’s good to be hungry and excited about food again. I bought a scale to keep track of my weight gain but I’m still showing the same weight as last month, 145. I’m hoping that it’s just that the scale is off and that I’ll be closer to 150 by Wednesday in the doctor’s office. I thought women were supposed to be worried about gaining too much weight during the pregnancy, all I can think about is am I gaining enough. Hopefully I’m just being an anxious newbie and it’ll be worry over nothing in the coming weeks.

I’ve been staying hydrated though and am very proud of my fluid intake. I have been drinking 24 ozs of ice tea (homemade) in the morning and another 24 in the afternoon at work. Plus water in the evening and during the night. I wake up parched at night and even though I know it’s going to mean more wake ups starting at 3 AM I can’t help but drink down each time I wake up and continue to purpetuate the bathroom trips.

Weight gain and fluid intake are supposed to be very important for twins in particular for helping pretent preterm labor.

I had my first experience with swelling last Friday. Woke up with my fingers so swollen my wedding band was making my finger itch. I was still a bit swollen after work that night but it went down to normal and I’ve been fine since. Another thing I’m on the watch for because *sever* swelling is a symptom of preclyampsia (high blood pressure) and will definitely cause preterm labor. So far just the normal stuff though so I’m not concerned. Just watchful.
