food poisoning and pregnancy
I seemed to have a mild food poisoning Sunday night that kept me from work on Monday. I was first up at 1 AM and then every 2-3 hours after that until about 6 AM which I think was the last time I got sick. Since I’ve experienced an entire day of the food poisoning horrors before, I knew this wasn’t bad. I didn’t have the awful stomach cramps and it only lasted about six hours. However I was very concerned about the babies. Called my OB’s RN who gave me a list of things to drink and eat to keep my fluid intake alright and had me calling her every 3 hours to check in and make sure I was urinating enough not to need to go into the ER and get put on an IV. Fluids are a big deal during pregnancy and even more so with twins. Dole fruit bars rock once again for their coolness factor (no pun intended) and sure do taste better then chicken noodle soup when you don’t feel good. I took some anti nausea medicine which kept me asleep for most of the day. The icky part was my stomach finally feeling better but having one heck of a headache and a low grade fever that made me feel like awful for most of the afternoon.
Still not exactly sure what caused it however I did drink several glasses of older milk (as in over the sell by date but not yet smelling or tasting bad). The milk is the only thing I can think of, maybe my system was just more susceptable then usual. Probably some protection for the babies.
